7 Ways to Boost Your Confidence and Getting Out of Your Comfort Zone

In a world that is always innovating, challenging, and competitive, taking risks is paramount. Risk-taking from some of my own experience builds confidence and uproots you from your comfort zone. Also, you are more likely to pursue other endeavors that you were once afraid of doing. Stepping out of your comfort zone I guarantee is liberating. If fear is getting in the way of you starting your business, publishing your book, or trying something new, here are a few things to consider that will boost your confidence.

1. Do Your Research. Is there a business you would like to start? We are now in a century where information is literally at your fingertips. Being prepared is one sure way to build your confidence. If you are starting a business, check out similar brands. Check out their marketing strategies, do your research, and ask questions.

2. Publish a Book. Do you have a story to tell? Why not publish a book. I guarantee it will boost your confidence and constantly take you out of your comfort zone. Since publishing my book, Reflections of a Queen Rising, in 2017, I was not thinking about all the other facets that came along. I was now an author and I needed to market, sell my book, attend vendor listing events, and find places to do book readings. Initially, the experience was nerve-racking but the more I did it I became more confident. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

3. Join Toastmasters. Do you seriously want to be more confident? Consider joining Toastmasters. Toastmasters will help to build your confidence and public speaking skills by practicing in front of an audience written speeches. I was a member of toastmasters in the past and completed six speeches. Is fear, lack of confidence, or struggling to get out of your comfort zone something you are dealing with? If so, consider giving Toastmasters a try. You may experience doubt at first but after a few speeches, you will be more calm, comfortable, and motivated to push yourself even further.

4. Attend Networking Events. Don’t be a couch potato. Get up and mingle. You never know who you will encounter when you put yourself out there. Networking events can provide insight on tips and resources for starting your own business, publishing your next bestseller, meeting your next travel buddy, or maybe even your future hubby. I recommend finding events on Eventbrite, Meetup.com, or Facebook. Now that we are in a Covid-19 era, research online events according to your preference.

5. Join a Sisterhood. Find a sisterhood that is in line with your values and mission in life. Find a sisterhood or even a book club society that seeks to empower women and who are on a mission to improve all areas of their lives. If you are serious about your personal growth, being debt-free, building wealth, and starting my own business, consider joining a society that will encourage you on your journey.

6. Take a Solo Trip.  In 2019, I booked a trip to New Orleans instead of waiting for confirmation that someone will join me.  A friend of mine did decide to go with me, but either way I was ready to take a solo trip regardless of who could make it or not. Hopefully conditions surrounding COVID-19 will improve and travel restrictions will be lifted soon. If you are traveling during this time, be sure to where your masks, practice safe distancing, and wash your hands often.

7. Find a Mentor or Therapist. Sometimes we may need an extra push, right? That is perfectly fine. If you are struggling with shifting your mindset sometimes inspirational quotes, prayer, and meditation are beneficial, but not always enough. Find a mentor that will challenge and inspire you to go further. If you are dealing with a past or current situation that is hindering you from living out your full potential, do not be afraid to seek out a professional. There are a ton of resources out there to get you started. Check with your insurance company about therapy sessions or check out Therapy for Black Girls.

Now that you are equipped to start doing what it takes to build confidence and getting out of your comfort zone, support will find its way. Just go for it. Challenge yourself to try something new. It is not always easy getting out of your comfort zone, but your success depends on it. As of today, find ways to discover your highest potential, believe in yourself, take risks, find your purpose, and live out your dreams.
