Dealing With Highs And Lows In Entrepreneurship
In the world of entrepreneurship, things aren’t always as they seem. High levels of energy and optimism characterize some days. On other days, you feel as if a train is passing through your body.
Recently, an artist issued a song declaring “adulthood is a scam.”
I’m like, “adulthood is whatever you make it.”
Nothing is ever a smooth ride from start to finish, and entrepreneurship, like adulthood, is flawed with stress. So, how do we deal with the highs and lows that come with entrepreneurship?
First, I’ll give a few examples of what can trigger company highs and lows.
Business highs can be triggered by:
Mergers
Moving to a new location.
Happy and satisfied clients
Selling products at a rapid rate
Brand recognition
Establishing new storefronts, retail outlets, and offices
Feeling the lows in entrepreneurship can happen when there are:
Staff departures might also contribute to business lows
Debts that have not been paid and are rising quick
Unfavourable government policies
Natural occurrences/disasters affecting businesses
Business-related attacks
How do you deal with highs and lows in entrepreneurship?
1.Accept how you feel
If you don’t know where the wound is, you won’t be able to heal. When you don’t know where to turn for help, how do you get better? For when you are low, recognize your emotions and accept them. Then, you can move on.
Your victories should be celebrated. Don’t be sad when things aren’t going well in your business. Instead, reminisce about your happier times. Make a mental note of how you got into the low, to begin with.
2. Every entrepreneur has these phases
Keep in mind that everyone goes through a certain stage in their lives. That’s correct, it’s not always chocolate and candy with business. Remember how some businesses failed during the pandemic? Others could make significant progress. Businesses go through many phases as time and seasons pass them by. The question is, how quickly can you change strategy and adapt?
3.Take your time, but don’t linger too long on the lows.
You’ll need time to get from the lows to the highs. Don’t let your emotions affect your work. Still, heal and get up as soon as you’re ready. Your company will not run itself. Fear, doubts, impostor syndrome, and a variety of other psychological emotions might result from staying down.
4. Take notes on your current stage.
Take notes on whichever phase you’re in. Learn how you got to the high days and how to stay there. Deal with your feelings and learn what provokes you if you’re having a bad day.
5. Share how you feel.
Allow yourself to express your emotions on days when you are feeling low. Don’t stifle your thoughts. We are often eager to share our joy when we are overjoyed. It should be the same for the bad days. It shows that we are both human and growing. Speak with a friend, go to a therapist, hire a business coach, or consult your mentor. But don’t neglect how you’re feeling on the inside. Don’t implode.
The best aspect about it all is that we rise and fall, but we will never drop the bar. Nobody has everything figured out entirely. Go on and grow.
