How To Start Your Journaling Journey
Journaling can be one of the many ways to meditate, calm, and relax. For me, journaling is another way I connect with myself on a deeper level. It's a way that I can express my thoughts if I'm feeling any emotion, whether it be happy, sad, excited, angry. Journaling is something that I swear by and would recommend anyone to try it out. Writing down your thoughts, feelings, goals, whatever it may be can help in the long run.
Journaling doesn't have to be done a specific way either you can journal; however, you feel that helps you manifest your goals, helps get your thoughts out, etc. It can be daunting at first because most think that you have to be an excellent writer to start journaling, but that's not the case at all. Writing down whatever comes to mind in your words is the best type of help/advice that you can give to yourself because it's written in a way that you only understand.
Anyone can start their journaling journey; it doesn't have to be at any specific time, but if that time is now, here are some ways, tips, and advice that helped me start my journaling journey and could help start your journaling journey.
Don't go into this thinking this is going to be like those YouTubers journals.
This is one thing that I had to tell myself because I have seen a lot of YouTubers putting up tutorials on how to journal and had a look at a few and looked at my journal and saw that it wasn't as neat and put together, and that's fine. This is YOUR journal. Design, write, draw,, or whatever as YOU please. This is your safe writing space, so make it your own.
Pick a journal that resonates with you.
I know it may seem funny and weird, but for me, but when I went to get a journal, I just picked out something that caught my eye and was drawn to and got it. When I looked at the journal every day on my desk, I would want to write in it. Regardless of how I was feeling, I was excited to write in the journal. Even if you get a solid black notebook, the thought of having this prized passion with your thoughts gets you excited to journal more. (or at least in my case)
Write/journal however you want
The way you format your writing can be however you want. You don't have to write paragraphs upon paragraphs design this layout how you want it to be. Even though I write a lot, I prefer making bullet lists in my journal and mini outlines because that's how I get my thoughts out onto paper. I tend to look back on some of my writings and how I have it formatted is easier for me to go back and read and process how I was feeling at that time.
Write/journal about whatever you want; this is your safe space.
This is your journal so you can write about whatever you want. If you wanted to write a recipe in your journal because it makes you feel good, then write it, and when you're upset, you can look back on it and cheer yourself up with a good meal. It can be what you make it. This is your journal; it can be as messy or as neat as you please.
Just try it and see how it goes.
When it comes to journaling, it doesn't have to be perfect. This journal is for you to write down your thoughts, goals, dreams, things you want to manifest, etc. Journaling is not as difficult as people make it out to be. Just as you would make little comments and notes to yourself in your notes app on your phone, you are just doing it in an actual journal; that's it. There's nothing different.
The one thing that I noticed when I started the journal is that I would feel better in the end when I wrote everything down. It made me feel organized, and a weight lifted off my shoulders when I could sit down and write down whatever comes to mind. Looking back on that process and seeing what you accomplished from your past journal entries is such a good feeling, and I think everyone should have a hand in experiencing that.
